Hottest Fall Wedding Trends

Fall is for lovers, and there’s arguably no better season to get married in the Midwest. And as one of our favorite season peers around the corner, we’re sharing some of our favorite autumn wedding trends.

Let Them Eat ‘Humble’ Cake
Throughout the year we see a lot of elaborate cakes, however, fall is all about being humble (but delicious) when it comes to cake designs. This year, we’re seeing lots of couples opting to forego traditional cake toppers - and many going topper-less - and trading them out for simple flowers, greenery or fruit.  We’re also seeing a number of textured-cake looks, with couples waving ‘bye’ to fondant and thick frostings and instead, displaying nearly-naked cakes with simple drips elegantly falling down the sides.

“Minimalistic cakes offer simplicity while still portraying beauty and elegance for that special day.”

Wild Flowers For All
While we love baby’s breath, couples are keeping these buds out of their fall arrangements and looking to whimsical vines of ivory for bouquets and table displays. We’re also seeing some unique, non-traditional florals make their way into arrangements, like colored dahlias, pepper berries and bay leaf branches. Regardless of your flower preference, bold colors, unique accents and whimsical greens are IN this fall.

"We love the trend of incorporating shades of burgundy and merlot into bouquets and centerpieces this season  - dahlias and ranunculus are the perfect way to incorporate these pops of color!"
Mae Rodovich, Event Designer, Yanni Design Studio

Blushingly Bold Colors
Though plums, warm oranges and deep blues lead the way in fall color themes, neutral accents and frosted pastels are making their way into 2018 trends. As many couples still want soft pastel accents, but don’t want an ‘Easter’ wedding feel in October, they are updating traditional ‘spring’ hues by having a veil of frost over them. In addition to frosted-pastels, we’re also seeing ivory replace traditional crisp white accents, and dark florals adding a dramatic pop in tablescapes.

Up, Up and Away
The higher the better when it comes to décor this fall. We’ve seen couples taking their table arrangements to new heights for their receptions - from extra tall candle sticks, to leafy branches, and potted trees - building your reception “up” is all the rage. For couples keeping their décor at traditional heights, whimsical calligraphy cards, menus and chalk boards are the perfect way to mesh a breezy, rustic centerpiece together, along with candlelight.
